The brothers of Mu-Upsilon have once again been action chapter certified just this week for Spring semester 2009! It goes to the hard work of our philanthropy this spring, Dodging for Diabetes, having an executive committee transition workshop, staying up to date on the Code of Conduct, having an excellent pledge education program, sound financial planning, among other categories. |

This past weekend our chapter held our 1st Annual Dodging for Diabetes Dodge Ball Tournament. Ten teams came together to dodge, dip, duck, dive, and dodge to help fight diabetes. All proceeds went to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF.) This was a very successful event which even made the 5 o'clock news on KWWL-TV. The event was planned by Colton Christner and Bryan Ward, who both spent months planning for this event.

Just in the last week the Mu-Upsilon chapter has been certified as an "Action Chapter." To qualify for this you must qualify for 10 out of 16 qualifications and must have at least 2 from every pillar while excelling in some of those the pillars. Under fellowship it has chapter size, ritual proficiency, pledge program, and an anti-hazing program. The under leadership you must hold an executive committe transition workshop, financial planning, conduct programming, and hold a Kappa Sigma University program. Under scholarship the chapter's gpa must exceed the all-men's average, have a scholarship plan, be involved on campus, and conduct the "My Brother's Keeper" program. Finally under service you must have a public relations plan, community service, philanthropy, and hold a community service event. We completed at least 10 of these which helped us to qualify us for the Action Chapter. |

| The 2008 Kappa Sigma Leadership Conference was held in Richmond, Virginia. Four Mu-Upsilon undergraduates, Brother Voss, Brother Hinrichs, Brother Blumberg, and Brother Murphy made the 17 hour drive each way. Mike Drey (AA) also made the drive with us, making it five deep in the four door sedan. It was a fun trip nontheless and was perfect timing to getting us motivated for fall recruitment. We went a day early and toured the New Kappa Sigma Headquarters. It was simply amazing. I encourage all of you to visit the headquarters when you are in the area. Friday night of the Leadership Conference, we stayed up till 3:30 in the morning chatting and telling stories with Justin Harringa (DGM) and the Iowa State chapter. It was a great night! |
