Pledgeship
In addition to a strict anti-hazing policy, Kappa Sigma mandates that all pledge programs must be 60 days or less in duration. "When you decide to join Kappa Sigma, you will open a door to a world of opportunities…not just at the University of Northern Iowa, but for the rest of your life. The experience and the knowledge that you will gain will far surpass the effort you put in." More men join Kappa Sigma each year than any other fraternity in North America. Since its founding at the University of Virginia on December 10, 1869, Kappa Sigma has initiated more than 245,000 men on college campuses throughout the United States and Canada. Today, the Fraternity has over 175,000 living alumni and more than 13,500 undergraduate members. Our proud history of producing campus leaders who go on to succeed in business, government, the armed services, sports, entertainment and the arts has led to Kappa Sigma’s continuous and unparalleled growth across the continent. Kappa Sigma's Brothers in Action Pledge Education Program provides new members with the basic knowledge necessary to understand the fraternity's history, founding, growth, leadership structure, and responsibility within the Greek community as a whole. BIA for Pledges incorporates the Four Pillars of Fellowship, Leadership, Scholarship and Service to help prepare probationary members for initiation. Kappa Sigma's pledge education process involves cultivating the new member with the basic knowledge necessary to understand the fraternity's history, founding, growth, leadership structure, and responsibility within the Greek community as a whole. In addition, emphasis is placed on the importance of responsibility to one's self in terms of academic, fraternal and community obligations.
